Even as a little girl, Amanda read everything she could get her hands on, whether it was a book or the advertising on the cereal box. Since she suffered from a speech impediment, she preferred to write down her thoughts. It was clear to her early on that she wanted to become a poet. But how could she have read her poems with her handicap? Through hard work, she overcame her stutter, and in January 2021, at the inauguration of President Joe Biden, she recited her world-famous poem "The Hill We Climb," a unique message of hope and confidence in a better future for America - and the world .
